DIY Sleep Mask (Minor Fail) - I made this and I'm a little proud and a little embarassed
Look at this sleep mask! Isn't it great? I am one of those people that can sew but also can't really sew. I thought if I got all the parts and pieces that it would turn out exactly the same. Well the one above is not the one I made but the one I was trying to copy. I actually made this one.
From afar it's not that bad right? I thought I was so clever. I traced a pattern, bought all the fabric, trim and fleece lining. It was gonna be perfect. Here are my mistakes:
I though I gave myself enough extra size when I traced it so that there was room for sewing. Nope. It's like half the size of the original. Then there was the actual sewing. I figured I'd sew it like a pillow (inside out) and then I would stitch the sides closed where the elastic goes. Well I did that but, as you can see on the sides, not pretty. There was silk piping on the original but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to sew it in. So I abandoned that idea. (if anyone knows how to do that, I'm all ears). Lastly, I forgot that my sewing machine is in storage so I hand stitched it. Sweet Jesus it took forever.
The good news is that I used it and it does all the things a sleep mask needs to do. It blocks the light and is soft on my face. So overall a win but aesthetically a fail. Oh well, no one (including myself) sees me in it and it does the trick. So yay me!
